EDGEWORTH DAVID ROAD, WAITARA
This
project is located adjacent to Edgeworth David Avenue
between Waitara Avenue and Orara Street and is one
of many unit developments forming part of the high
rise precinct located between Hornsby Westfield’s
Shopping Centre and Waitara Railway Station.
The
84 unit development consists of 2 seven storey towers
both located over a common 2 level basement carpark.
The
main structure is based on a conventionally reinforced
concrete frame with transfer slabs at both level 4
and ground level. The basement perimeter retaining
walls have been constructed in reinforced concrete
masonry.
The
bulk excavation was predominantly in stable rock and
accordingly only a relatively small portion of the
excavation required temporary shoring.
Internal
partitions consist of plasterboard mounted on either
metal stud frames or “Hebel Powerpanels”.
This system was favoured by the client due to the
speed of erection and uniform internal finish compared
to that of cement rendering.
Conventional
face brickwork seen in the exterior is tied to a metal
stud frame which is secured to the concrete floor
slabs.
The
pitched tiled roof of the penthouses is supported
by prefabricated timber trusses which were not able
to be supported by “Hebel” panels. A completely
free standing structural steel frame had to be designed
to carry roof trusses independently of wall partitions. |
